This man gave me the tools to continue when I no longer could. When my knee shut down in Wilmington, North Carolina he called me and said “I know everyone doesn’t want you to quit, nor do I, I’m sending you a bicycle and you keep going as far as you can.”
Lloyd also supplied me with tubes, nutrition and was always a text message or a phone call away when I couldn’t figure out what to do technically with the bike (I had not been on a bike in over a year, nor had any training miles in cycling before having to go from running to cycling, but I was going to try to finish). He reached out to Felt Bicycles and said let’s get this guy across the country if he is willing to pedal 5,400 miles still left to complete it.
Long story short, I had completed a 3,000 mile solo run across the U.S. last year, was 1,000 miles on foot into the 2nd run around 3 sides of the country before knee issues stopped me and he made it possible to put another 3,111 miles in before my knees said no more. He, his wife Teresa and sons August and Dawson along with their 5 rescued pets even opened up their home to me last night.
In closing, I saw what a great person he is and he even said to keep the bike, get those knees back up to par, train on the bike and we at Triathlon Lab will be right there till you reach your original finish line. I will in the next 2 years or less because of those like Lloyd, his team and those that believe every day individuals can accomplish anything.”
